63 porters leave with provisions for camp I, at 5,400 metres. The next day the whole team of mountaineers meet at base camp. All the baggage has arrived at last.
Cortina celebrates the Scoiattoli prior to their K2 departure
On Friday 4 June Cortina celebrates the K2 Expedition 1954-2004
The countdown to the Scoiattoli's departure has begun in earnest in Cortina. 50 years ago the local population gave Lino Lacedelli and triumphal welcome, and now his young friends will attempt to climb the second highest mountain in the world. And the K2 Expedition 1954-2004 will be a journey back through time, following tin the footsteps of Lino Lacedelli, Achille Compagnoni and the entire 1954 expedition.
For this reason the Scoiattoli have invited all to take part in their celebrations on 4 June 2004. All members of the K2 Expedition 1954-2004 will be there: the Scoiattoli Davide Alberti, Marco Da Pozzo, Mario Dibona, Stefano Dibona, Mario Lacedelli, Renato Sottsass and Luciano Zardini, together with the three other mountaineers Marco Anghileri from Lecco, Marco Sala from Borca di Cadore and Renzo Benedetti from. Lino Lacedelli will be there too, just a few days before his for Pakistan and the foot of K2.
The evening will be hosted by Marco Dibona who will show multimedia slideshow, before the real festivities begin.

A weak ridge is situated over Afghanistan. It may at times affect the K2-area during the first days giving only risk of occasional showers. Then it seems to become more unsettled with frequent showers due to lows over Kashmir and Tibet.
